Lakeview Wine Cellars

A tranquil setting with a wine bottle shaped pond, where friends gather for picnics, music and fun.
When Sam and Becky Best opened Lakeview Wine Cellars in May, 2008, they set out to build a winery that was as friendly to the environment as they are to their customers. Their wine-bottle shaped pond is used for storm water management, irrigation, fire control, and as a geo-thermal heat source. The building is situated to accommodate solar panels, and they plan to build a wind generator. They use no harsh chemicals, instead opting to use ozonated water, which is electrically charged water that creates ozone to sanitize equipment before it turns back into ozone after 5 minutes.
As eco-friendly as the Best’s are, nothing compares to the warm friendliness you’ll experience at Lakeview Wine Cellars. From the moment you’re greeted by the winery’s official mascot, an Irish Setter named Cabernet, you’ll be easily taken in by the relaxed, clean atmosphere. The one-of-a-kind tasting bar was built by a friend, and its glass top encases beautifully displayed sand, stones and shells that were sent to Sam by friends who live in places as far away as Ft. Myers, Hawaii, St. Augustine, and San Francisco.
The winery is a dream come true for Sam and Becky, who had been home winemakers for 30 years before deciding to share their unique wines in a commercial setting. Sam will tell you that one of the true pleasures of his business is watching the smiles come across the faces of visitors when they taste a wine they truly enjoy.
Sam creates his wines using only grapes that are grown within a two-mile radius from his winery. All of Lakeview’s premium varieties are fermented in Pennsylvania white oak barrels. What’s special about “oak-aged wines”? The oak barrel imparts character and flavor into the wine. Pennsylvania oak is even better, as it imparts a smooth, clean, “oakey” flavor without bitterness.
Located just minutes from I-90, Lakeview is a perfect stop for those who want to relax on the back porch to enjoy gorgeous lake views, have a picnic, take a hike, learn about delicious food pairings or chat with good friends.
